Broken, but the same

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Frozen white ice on the road. Cracked white ice on the road.

I was walking along a road and suddenly the ice cracked beneath my feet.  I looked down and realized that broken or smooth, the ice patches were made of the same ingredients: frozen water = H2O!

A broken heart may seem to shatter and be something else, however the heart can never lose its essential ingredients:  enduring love, compassion, courage, and enthusiasm.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Connected

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Nighttime under a streetlight, a grandmother and her granddaughter see how even their shadows are connected. We were walking out of the play and it was very dark.  My granddaughter took one look at our shadows and cried, “Look grandma, our shadows are together!”  I thought it so poignant that my granddaughter discovered another way we are close and connected.

There are natural laws that will always keep you connected to something good — even when you don’t have the strength, inclination, or knowledge on how to make this connection.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Whirling dervish

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

My grand daughter spinning for over an hour, dressing up, and listening to music in her pink princess costume. The whirling dervishes are dancers who spin to empty themselves of distracting influences.  On this morning, my granddaughter reminded me of the spinning Sufis.  She spent more than an hour whirling to her favorite music.  She was in a trance of freedom and joy.

Having to make sure everything is right and on time can be a burdensome responsibility for you.  Take time each day to spin out of control and be in a good meditative place of your own.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Topsy turvy world

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

A little twenty month old learning to stand on her head and enjoying the whole experience.I remembered when having my world turned upside down was fun!   Then adulthood arrived and I had to learn that the untoward traumatic topsy turvy events were resolved when I could find hope and joy in getting up and moving on.

The world turning upside down in utter confusion is simply your cue to find the best of who you are, raise yourself up, and go forward with joy and good expectations.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Early bird?

Monday, April 6th, 2009

A dark orange breasted robin catching a worm in the grass covered ground.I grabbed my camera just in time to snap this picture of a robin catching a worm.  Around 1670, a platitude/proverb was published stating that only the early bird catches the worm.  I hate to tell that person, but the bird and his feathered friends caught worms all day long.  This guy was having lunch.  (Click photo to enlarge.)

Question platitudes and resolve that you will find what you need — no matter what the time of day or the number in competition.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Strong heart

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Tire tracks left in the snow and the hint of a heart shape peering out from one of them (lower right corner -- click to enlarge)Tire tracks left familiar patterns in the snow covered street.  I was startled to see a little heart peeking out from behind one print.  See it at the bottom mid right?  Click on the picture to enlarge the image.

Life has its little “run overs” that would crush the hopes, dash the dreams or break a heart.  However, your heart is strong and can peek out and come back to its fullest good expression.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Good old memories

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

A country store window display featuring a large stuffed giraffe. When I was in college, my boyfriend gave me a stuffed giraffe.  Almost forty years later, I looked in the store window and saw a reminder of this lost love and gift.  The old giraffe’s newer model was standing tall and ready for a love story of its own.

Cherish the reminders of some sacred joy — even if that time in your life is over and done.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard
