Cherish who you are

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

This week, my orchid formed a new green stem and buds.  Blooms will unfold, wilt, and dry into beautiful origami paper like flowers.  Every part of the cycle is extraordinary.  I can hardly wait for the blooms to appear as they have for the past five years.

Cherish who you are in your own cycle of life.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Not my dad’s concrete

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Growing up, the only concrete I knew was the cement used to hold fence posts in place.  You can imagine my delight when I found another type — frozen yogurt.  This is not my dad’s concrete.

Move out of the abstract and invent something concrete that will delight others and bring families together.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Show your true colors

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

This magnificent light sculpture hangs in the Zodiak Room Restaurant, Neiman Marcus, Frontenac, Missouri.  Diners can enjoy the calming ambiance each light square shares changing from blue/purple/green tones to red.  These photos illustrate a few seconds’ changes in only one four foot section.

Let your true colors shine in works that are calming and healing to all.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

All washed up

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I was waiting my turn at these sinks.  Two women were one-upping each other on chronic pain level.  In frustration, the second woman suddenly and definitively declared, “The humidity is killing me.  I’m going home to soak in the tub.”

You may want to wash your hands of some linear reasoning.  The beliefs espoused may be all washed up.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Light IN the tunnel

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

A lit traffic tunnel in ColoradoWhen going through rough times, I’ve had people tell me, “Don’t worry.  There’s light at the end of the tunnel.”  I’ve come to find out there is also light IN the tunnel.

Even in the most troubling, dark passage, there is light.  Open your eyes.  Watch for the on switch or grab a flashlight.  Let your light shine.  You may not have to be in the dark — even when the end is not so near.  There is light IN the tunnel as well as at the end.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard

Lost perspective?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I was lost and re-entered the address into my navigator.  The new route suggested I go around in a circle and arrive at my present location.  After looking more closely, I discovered the correct location was right next to my car.

When lost a the loop of life, don’t lose your perspective (e.g., lost on the road, lost a loved one, lost your mind).  Take heart and you will find your way.  This is my flashback of good.  Suzy Shepard

Multitasking

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I heard this whining and looked to see my granddaughter trying to use the pacifier and sippy cup.  I laughed and thought about how many times I too had tried to do two things at the same time under the guise of “multitasking”.

To achieve the best results, sequence tasks and don’t be afraid to abandon the idea of nerve racking simultaneous mutitasking.  Make quality of life easy on yourself.  This is my flashback of good for today.  Suzy Shepard
