Be present for auspicious occasions
Saturday, November 29th, 2008My friend is trying on the beaded holder (bottom), pot (middle portion) and decorated coconut (top pointed object) signifying the tradition of a Hindu family Kul Devi (family deity) blessing. The family goes to the temple and gets this blessing after an auspicious event. In this case, the auspicious event is my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding. I was honored to take home a decorated “coconut” similar to the one pictured.

This family knows how to have fun! They didn’t have to go out and buy a toy, eat an expensive dinner, join a gym, rent a movie, or pay an entertainer. This is the moment the kids will remember.

Monday, November 24th, 2008I pulled over on the west coast highway north near Monterey, California and found this stunning Pacific Ocean hideaway. Where have I been all my life to have missed such sights and sounds? Trapped with PDA’s, TV’s, computers, deadlines, and housework!

The aspen tree is a study in resilience. Thousand year old aspen roots survive forest fires and send up new trunks. When traumatic life experiences burn on the surface, remember the aspen.
